He frustrates me to absolute fuck watching him, he is so greedy. He has however had absolutely fuck all to work with and his best games have been alongside Lanzini.

He doesn't work well out wide for me and has to play off the striker.

Re: Zarate against Southampton
Zarate didn't pass because he looked around to see Mark 'stuck in treacle and can barely pass it sideways' Noble and Enner 'straw man, headless chicken' Valenicia. He then probably thought 'fuck it, I'm keeping it'

Yeh cos Carroll and Noble and Song and Kouyate never lose possession in those areas

Re: Zarate against Southampton
The way zarate risks losing possesion for personal gain is a fucking disgrace .i would kick shit out of him in the changing room.some people on here don't understand that losing possesion constantly the way he does in the premier league is criminal .

Re: Zarate against Southampton
Vexed - Yeah, it certainly wasnt the worst ever seen! We've seen far worse this season from other players.

I do think it would be interesting to see how Zarate would get on further forward, with hardly any defensive responsibility and as you say, surrounded by better players. The lad obviously has ability and can create.

The conversations around him remind me of the conversations people had about Diamanti. He eventually left us, played up front for Bologna (i think) in a free role and eventually made the Italy squad.

Re: Zarate against Southampton
Zarate had a shit game tbf yesterday, but fuck me to say that was the worst you've ever seen is ridiculous.

Don't you remember.Gary Bren against Man United, or some of the shit Wayne Quinn churned out to name a couple.

Yeah spot on Baggins.... the cow carcass has got a better right hoof... she would have buried that chance he blazed over the bar last night

Vexed 6:39 Tue Dec 29
Re: Zarate against Southampton
Ok Baggins, this s ridiculous though. The bloke is the equal top scorer who has played in a shit awful lineup for most of his appearances.

I think if there was a bit more movement in the sides he plays in he wouldn't have to hang onto the ball as long and would be more effective.

I'd be interested to see him in the same side as Payet, Sakho, Lanzini and Song when everyone is on form. I doubt the opposition would see much of the ball with that lot.

Re: Zarate against Southampton
Seems like Lanzini will be back in the team on Saturday. I would like to see Zarate get at leat half a game as the two of them seem to have an understanding. he suffered y’day from trying to do too much, as usual, but not having the safeguard of an effective defensive midfield behind him, which was baffling as our three favoured defensive midfielders were on the pitch.

Re: Zarate against Southampton
Yes, Northern son, I like it.

The carcass has more pace but Andy's new hair gives him the advantage.

Baggins 6:34 Tue Dec 29
Re: Zarate against Southampton
Vexed - There's no need to be so dramatic. We're discussing a current player, his role in the team and long term future.

There are similar discussions about other players. It's not vitriol. Its just football.

Re: Zarate against Southampton
Yeah you are right Baggins son....

I see Andy Carroll has got two more goals than that old cow carcass (Merrybell) over at Swains slaughter house...

Is that a better comparison ??

Vexed 6:30 Tue Dec 29
Re: Zarate against Southampton
There's a lot of vitriol on here considering we just won.

Slagging off our top scorer too. Interesting. Classic WHO.

There are other players way more worthy if we must slag a particular player off.

Baggins 6:29 Tue Dec 29
Re: Zarate against Southampton
Northern - I dont really see how you can compare the two, they are totally different players.

Zarate is currently competing for a place with Lanzini, Payet, Valencia, Moses, Antonio and Sakho (sometimes).

Re: Zarate against Southampton
Under the thumb - Thats the point. Yesterday wasn't the exception, it was the norm. He's been playing like that for most of the season but people seem blinded by the fact he produces a piece of skill every so often or can take a free kick.

As others have said, I think you either play him up front, with hardly any defensive or tactical responsibilities, or you don't play him at all.
